Every Monday, the Center features a Word Of The Week (WOTW) to educate and promote understanding of terms used regarding sex, sexuality, and gender – as well as to share some saucy and helpful tips about how to enhance and explore your sexual life!
A throuple, more commonly known as a trio, is a romantic relationship between three people instead of two. The three people are all in a romantic relationship with each other, therefore making it different from a threesome, wherein three people get together for purely sexual reasons.
Throuples may consist of any combination of genders, and are a form of polyamory. Frequently throuples start with a two people dating each other and then meeting a third that they are both attracted to and pursuing that third together, though other times the throuple starts out with three people. Like other types of relationships, the throuple may or may not be open to dating or having sex with others; sometimes doing so individually or as a group.
